Chapter 122. The Razor Between Us
Jeremy’s POV
Evening settled over the city like a slow-moving tide when I pulled into the Carters’ penthouse driveway.
The air had that muted chill that sometimes comes after a long, exhausting day—the kind that forces your mind inward, into places you don’t always want to visit.
I couldn’t get the discussion with Zayne off my mind. I didn’t tell him, but I had taken it upon myself to protect him also now. Whoever it was—that tried to kill Zayne, tried to harm Teyana—would have me to cross first.
I had called Teyana earlier. She said she was with Carol, and I didn’t tell her I was coming home. I didn’t want her involved in any part of this. It felt wrong even letting her sense the weight gathering in my chest.
But I had someone watching over her in the shadows. She’s mine to protect.
The security man at the entrance greeted me, his voice formal as always.
“Welcome, sir.”
I nodded once. “Is my dad around?”
He shook his head
