Chapter 41. Theatrics
Eve couldn't concentrate on her work after the meeting. She was thinking about Mrs. Daphne's condition. The kind old lady had done so much for her, and she felt close enough to her to touch anxious.
She was reluctant to call Gery and ask for Mrs. Daphne's latest news. Fortunately, at lunchtime, Gery herself called and asked about the progress at the office. She took the opportunity to ask about Madam Daphne's condition.
"The doctor said that the pressure and stress she was under had reduced her endurance. Her blood pressure and heart were weakened, so she had to be monitored for some time. He also said she shouldn't overthink so she can recover quickly," Gery replied somberly.
Eve had never heard Gery's voice sound that sorry before. The man, who was usually harsh and rigid towards her, was now filled with anxiety and gloom about the condition of her beloved grandmother.
Eve's heart trembled at the thought. Instantly, her sympathy for Gery rose dramatically
