Becca's POV

Marelva repeatedly shot me stinky looks through the rearview mirror. 

I sat silently in the backseat, my heart frozen.

It was difficult to say goodbye to my friends a few minutes ago. Marc struggled to comprehend until the very last moment why I would return, despite me having previously told him about my unhappiness with my husband. However, I didn't want to surprise them with a werewolf story, and Johnston wouldn't allow it either. Since I'll probably never see them again in my life, explaining didn't make much sense.

However, it was Jerney's reaction that surprised me the most. He observed quietly while Andrea and Marc attempted to convince me not to leave with Johnston. Just before I departed, he embraced me tightly and advised me to stay strong, ensuring that nobody took advantage of me. He appeared to grasp the complexity of my situation.
