Chapter 118. You Can’t Stop Me
Layla’s POV
As I entered the house, I noticed the living room lights were on. Ezra was sitting on the couch, waiting for me. He looked calm, but I know him well enough to notice the tension in his eyes.
“How was it?” Ezra asked as soon as I stepped inside. His tone sounded casual, but I felt the weight behind it.
“It was fun as always,” I answered, dropping my bag in the chair. My tone sounded flat, even to me.
Ezra’s eyes narrowed a little bit. Usually, whenever I came back from hanging out with Chloe, I would be buzzing, babbling endlessly about our adventures, the food we ate, and the little things she said that made me smile. But tonight was different. I could feel my silence filling the room.
He leaned forward, crossing his arms over his knees. “What’s going on? Everything okay?”
I hesitated for a moment, then looked him in the eye. “Ezra… I want to ask you something. About Chloe.”
He blinked. “Okay. Ask.”
