Layla’s POV
The workshop smelled faintly of metal and polish. My hands moved carefully over the last piece, making sure every curve, every line, was exactly the way I wanted. Tomorrow was the unveiling, and I couldn’t afford even the smallest mistake.
“Layla,” Caleb said from behind me.
I looked up and smiled just a little. “You are early.”
She moved a little bit closer and her eyes locked onto the necklace on the velvet stand. For what felt like the longest time, she said nothing at all. Her lips parted just slightly as if she had almost stopped breathing.
“Oh my God,” she spoke breathlessly. “Layla… this is… so beautiful.”
I almost stifled a short laugh, then rubbed my finger back and forth under the jewel. “Do you really think so?”
Caleb shook her head and kept staring. “Think so? No. I know so. This piece has so much life. It’s like you put every piece of your heart into it.”
