Chapter 138. I Wasn’t Going to Let Her Win
Ezra’s POV
The sirens blasted through the night as my car stopped behind the police vans. My chest felt tight, and my hands gripped the steering wheel tight enough to make my knuckles ache. As soon as I stepped out of the car, the inspector approached me, his face serious.
“Mr. Reed,” he said quickly, “we found the car.”
“Where?” I asked. I think I raised my voice higher than I had wanted to.
“Just over here.” He pointed ahead to a row of police lights.
I rushed towards the lot where he pointed. I tromped heavily on the gravel. Then I saw it: Layla’s car was parked awkwardly on the side of the road. The headlights were dim and still on, like the driver had left quickly. I gasped.
Two guards lay still not far away with blood on their shirts.
