Chapter 9

Maya took another sip of her drink as she waited for Emilia to talk. She was happy that she was finally getting to know her.

“So, do you have any siblings?” Maya asked after a few moments.

“No, I don’t have any siblings. I never had a brother or a sister,” Emilia responded. “But I always wanted one.”

“Do you want children of your own?” Maya asked.

“Yes,” Emilia nodded. “But I can’t have children.”

“I am sorry,” Maya said.

“It’s alright. I meant to say that I can’t have children now because for me to have children, then I need to get married to someone, which I don’t plan on doing anytime soon,” Emilia said as she looked at Maya.

“Why?” Maya asked.

“Because I want to be independent for now. I want to work on my career, and then maybe when I have achieved my goals, I will look for someone to settle down with,” Emilia said as she sipped her drink.

“I totally understand that,” Maya said as she nodded.
