"Mama, where are we going?" Amari asked as we got into the taxi.

We were on our way to the mall. The truth was, I didn't have a specific destination in mind. If I had said that I was just going shopping, Roy might come to pick me up, and I didn't want that to happen.

They had no idea about my plan to introduce them to each other. I was also avoiding the possibility of raising expectations if our meeting today didn't work out.

"Where are you?" I asked as I answered Roy's call.

"Still on my way. Heavy traffic, wait for me there," he replied.

"I told you to come early," I complained.

"Are you far away?" I asked.

Our agreement was for him to arrive early. It seemed like Amari and I would be the ones waiting for him.
