Chapter 47. Traumatize
Why? Why did it have to come to this?
Wasn't it enough that I had been evicted from the house? Wasn't it enough that I lost my job? Wasn't it enough that the person I loved betrayed me? Wasn't it enough?
I clutched my chest tightly as it constricted, making it hard to breathe.
My eyes were swollen as I emerged from the room. I had cried myself to sleep, but I woke up with my eyes still wet.
I found the woman in the living room, working on her laptop. She sensed my presence and turned to smile at me.
"Are you hungry? I asked Erick to buy something you can eat," she said.
I shook my head. I had no appetite for that. I just wanted to know about that night.
"You haven't eaten since that night," she said, turning her attention back to her work.
"Where are they?" I asked.
She paused while typing on her keyboard and looked me directly in the eyes. "They're in jail," she replied.
