Chapter 48. Thank You
She glanced at me briefly and quickly returned to her work.
"Thank you," I whispered, causing her to shift her attention back to me. She just smiled at me.
"If not for your kindness... yours and Mr. Erick's, I wouldn't even know if I'd still be alive now. You're both such good people," I said, fidgeting with my hands. "I'm sorry if I'm becoming a burden to you. You're not really obligated to help me because, first of all, you don't even know me—"
"Shh... don't say that. Why? Should we only help people we know? Are they the only ones who should be saved when someone needs help? Besides, we can help you, so we will."
I gave a restrained smile and then lowered my gaze to look at my toes.
"Do you know," she said, prompting me to raise my eyes to look at her. She closed her laptop and removed her glasses. "If you don't know, we also have a daughter with Erick," she said.
