Chapter 28
My breath went ragged when our lips connected. The kiss was gentle and firm, just as I'd expected. When did she feel the need to back off so quickly? My weeks of frustration at being apart from her were released in those brief moments of physical touch, but it wasn't quite enough. When she drew me in like that, sparks flew everywhere. Now that I've gotten to kiss everyone I care about, I feel strangely whole.
I thought she would be angry at me for making her listen to my venting while she was in so much agony. She was cursed, and just as she was about to get the treatment she needed, I had an outburst aimed at her, but she didn't respond.
After she kissed me, I stood in front of her—dumbfounded, but surely on cloud nine, wishing this moment would go on forever.
"I shouldn't have said any of that; I'm so sorry, Amber," the words suddenly came out of my mouth with a heavy heart as I tentatively put my palm to her cheek and stared into her russet eyes. Amb
