Chapter 16

Lucy heard the call and even looked around, and she even looked back, but there was no one else there, so there was no way the man could be calling someone else.

"Little girl?" The man called again, and this time Lucy hurried.

She entered the store and looked around. Some displays for bags and shoes were being set up, and mannequins were in a corner. There were many people working right there, but Lucy focused on the man who was already heading up the stairs at the back of the store, and obviously, she needed to follow him.

There was a ground floor in the store, and maybe even a second floor. But Lucy averted her gaze from the upper part, which was also still being assembled and organized, to enter the office where the man was already waiting for her.

"Please, have a seat," the man requested, also taking a seat.

There was no desk there. Not the kind of desk Lucy was used to thinking existed in offices.
