The aroma of cooked rice filled the apartment at seven in the morning. The door to Jaesun room was open, and Jungso was finishing making the bed where he had slept with his wife, listening to her hum softly as she portioned the rice into small bowls.

"What a wonderful smell," Ryeon appeared, dressed in a short pajama with shorts. "Good morning, Mom-in-law."

"Good morning. Are you hungry?"

"Very."

"That's great, I made cooked rice and fried eggs. There's still some leftover kimchi from what we brought, so you can have that too."
