Chapter 57. Does It Hurt?
They were getting ready to go back to Toronto. Hadley was dragging her suitcase to the parking lot when Jethro and Kathleen passed in front of her. She was stunned. The young man embraced his girlfriend while they talked gladly as he carried the woman’s belongings. He didn’t even bother to look at her. She stared at them for a moment and felt like a dagger slowly pierced into her chest. Unbeknownst to her, Jethro avoided her while he was trying to be sweeter to Kathleen.
Hadley remembered when she once asked Jethro about what to do when he caught his partner betraying him. He answered that he was willing to forgive and accept the person—even her ugly sides. He said he would also reflect on his actions to understand why the person he loved did that.
Maybe that’s what he was doing now. He was starting to make up for all his shortcomings as her boyfriend. Perhaps that was how deep his love for Kathleen was.
“Stop staring at them. You’re making yourself feel worse.”
