Emma’s POV
The lady didn’t respond, her gaze fixed on Parker’s prone form. She reached out a bony hand, her fingers trailing over the makeshift bandages.
Hunter and Bennett exchanged a wary glance, their bodies tensing, ready to defend their mate and brother.
“Leave him alone,” Hunter growled, his voice low and menacing.
The lady’s gaze flickered to Hunter, her eyes glinting in the dim light. “I mean no harm,” she croaked, her voice like a rusty gate.
My heart raced as the lady’s gaze locked onto mine, her eyes burning with an otherworldly intensity. “Waiting for me?” I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper. “Who are you?” I repeated, but she didn’t reply. Her voice sounded different from what I expected, but it wasn’t enough to make me heighten my guards around her, and I wondered why.
What was about this strange woman who left me so confused and worried? Probably because she was a witch. I cleared my throat but couldn’t stil
