One punch, just one or maybe two. My fingers curled into a fist at my side. I had sensed a weird energy the second my eyes caught sight of the fellow.
His eyes wouldn’t leave Eliana’s body. Disregard in broad daylight—broad nightlight.
Wrapping my arms possessively around Eliana, I opened my mouth to speak. Her hand tugged at my shirt. I lowered my gaze; her eyes were wide open, a kind of reprimand or warning. Then she whispered, “Don’t,” slowly shaking her head.
“I’m Eliana, you?” She smiled softly at the lady with the creepy-ass man.
“I’m… I’m Phoebe,” the woman muttered, taking a step backward.
The man’s gaze lingered on the red-haired woman; his expression was unreadable. His lips were pressed in a thin line. Something was off about the couple. Whatever it was, it was not my concern.
“Why are you here?” I asked impatiently.
The man smiled, a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
