Serena POV
I wheeled around swiftly, and my hand felt for the pepper spray I knew I didn’t carry. Within a second, I was already regretting why I had angrily set off alone without the protection that Myles offered. My eyes landed on the person who had spoken to me, and I felt relieved.
“Detective Davies, right?” I forced a smile on my face.
“Just call me Harry.” He stretched out a hand and I shook his hand warmly.
The detective wasn’t in uniform. He dressed in a loose Hawaiian shirt with sunglasses clipped to the breast pocket and had a can of diet soda in his hand.
“I’m sorry I spooked you.” He apologized. “Didn’t mean to do that.”
“It’s alright,” I replied with a tight nod. “I just wasn’t expecting anyone to creep up on me like that.”
“My bad.” He held both hands up, feigning surrender. “How’s your husband, anyway? How’s marriage?”
