Chapter 48
Cassandra was so flabbergasted by what he just said that it took her a while to regain her voice, and when she did, she began to babble for a moment, utterly confused by what he meant.
“What do you mean your mother sent you a letter?” she said, handing him the envelope.
He then pulled out the letter that was inside, unfolding it and giving it back to her to read. It read:
My dearest,
I know that this letter will come to you and put you in a state of confusion, but I’m afraid that you can no longer keep living your life without knowing the truth. I’m afraid that somebody else might see this letter, and they’re not supposed to, so keep it to yourself. I know I’m asking for a lot, but if you could meet me at the subway station at 9:00 sharp the day after you receive this letter, I will meet you there and explain everything to you.
Your mom,
Melissa.
Both of them stared at the letter for the longest time, neither sayi
