Chapter 28. I Will Not Lose You Again

Shimma’s POV

While I was still on the phone with the officer, I hoped they would come sooner than expected. If they had my location, as she said they did, it would be easier for the cops to find me.

But who knew how long they would take? Who knew how far I was from the city?

“Shimma!” I heard a familiar voice call to me. It was him—Lucas.

With fear and trembling hands, my phone slipped from my grasp, falling against the fallen branches with a loud thud.

I heard his footsteps approaching my phone, and I managed to squeeze myself behind the tree branches.

I could feel my whole body tremble. My heart pounded as if it were about to jump out of my chest. He was close—so close now—and there was nothing stopping him from finding me.

I watched him pick up the phone. Luckily, the battery had died before he could realize I was on a call with the police.
