Chapter 26
Finally, we get home. I get out and walk straight inside. Jackson’s Mum is in the kitchen, the twins clearly having been spoilt and now in bed. I walk over to her and take the clothes she was putting in the washing machine.
“I can do that.” I smile at her.
Jackson laughs, and I turn to look at him, wondering what is so funny.
“She’s hiding the evidence, Alena. Check them for chocolate and ice cream stains!”
I look at her, shaking my head and laugh. “No evidence to hide Jackson. She can give them all the chocolate and ice cream she wants when you’re not here.”
He laughs and walks into the office, Marcus following him. I look at him and see he is hurting, hiding it, yes, but he is hurting. It can’t have been easy seeing what he saw today, Jackson and me. That must have hurt, us doing that in front of him when Maria is leaving him.
“You look better. Did you get a chance to relax?” I turn and look at Jackson’s Mum.
