Chapter 26
It was a flower vase that fell from the table he placed it on when they hurried to the mini library earlier. There was no sound in the room except the soft music from the radio. The moon had risen higher now and it sparkled on the couches with greater intensity than ever before, for now, it had been joined by one more dancing dot of Kate’s phone torch, indicating an incoming call.
“Hi, Jane,” she answered.
“Hey, Kate, you aren’t attending tonight’s dinner?” Enquired from the other side.
“Oh, too bad! I’ve forgotten about that. I’m out of town now. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. They’re already here waiting for me. I got to go. See ya. Bye.”
The call ended.
She let out a heavy sigh of relief, then hissed. Only then did she laugh. She did that on purpose. She didn’t want to attend.
She closed the phone and eyed Alex who was standing beside her, obviously searching for something, with a peculiar glint in her eye. “Well, that was interesting.”
