Chapter 62
The corner where they sat didn’t have direct light, lit only by the silver streaks of the rising moon. Alex handed her one of the parcels. She unwrapped it, revealing a stack of hamburger buns dusted with dark creamy chocolate. The smell hung in the air, tickling her nostrils and watering her mouth. He took the bottles of cokes and clicked the caps against each other. The tops popped off.
“That’s a neat trick,” she said, impressed.
He smiled, his shoulder lifted in a shrug. “I learned it years ago in a college.”
She smiled.
“It’s so lovely being here. Just the two of us, listening to the waves as the sea breeze blows, searing through our bodies.” He stretched out his arms across the table, reaching for hers. She pulled her hand down to her lap. If he touched her, she would lose all coherent thinking.
