“Why didn’t you tell us all this sooner?” My supposed mother cried. “Do you not trust us that much?” 

I exhaled deeply. “It’s not that. I was just scared that no one would believe me.” 

“Oh, my baby.” She stood from her feet and closed the distance between us. She pulled me in for a hug and I heard her sniffle. 

This was epic! 

This was the perfect way to shut Chad up. I did not want him to go to prison, of course. Because for some reason, after spending some time with him, I started to care about him. Even though it was just a tiny little bit. 

But this was the only way to throw any suspicions off me. Chad would be deemed a paranoid liar and I would get to go through with my plan of revenge. I knew that I would be gaslighting him, and I hated to be gaslit myself, but it was definitely not the time for feeling remorse.
