Chapter 48

Calvin tilted his head, confused. "Goodbye? What does that mean, Daddy?"  

Nico took a deep breath before answering. "Daddy has to go far away, Calvin. Daddy can't stay here anymore."  

Hearing that, Calvin immediately held Nico's hand tightly. "No! Daddy can't leave! Daddy has to be here with Mommy and me!"  

"Calvin," Nico's voice began to tremble, "Daddy has no other choice. But Daddy promises, Daddy will always love you."  

Calvin began to cry. He hugged Nico's leg, refusing to let go. "Daddy don't go, please! I don't want Daddy to go!"  

Nico gently rubbed Calvin's head, trying to calm his son, even though his own heart was breaking. He stood up, then looked at Celine who was still silent on the bed.  

"Celine," Nico finally spoke, his voice full of regret. "I know I've hurt you in the past. I don't have a reason for any of that. I just want to apologize. For everything."
