Isabella’s POV
“Logan,” I said softly, leaning closer. “Are you okay? You seem... distant.”
He finally looked at me, his expression unreadable. “I’m fine. Just tired.”
I nodded, giving him a sympathetic smile. “You work so hard. You should try to relax more.”
He didn’t respond, and I felt a pang of frustration. Why won’t you just tell me what’s on your mind? I thought.
As the evening wore on, I kept up the act, chatting about trivial things and laughing at my own jokes. Logan remained quiet, his responses brief and detached.
But I noticed the way he avoided looking at me for too long, as though he was afraid I’d see through him. And maybe he was right to be cautious.
When dinner was over, I stood to clear the table, giving Logan a sweet smile. “Why don’t you go relax in the study? I’ll take care of this.”
He nodded, standing and leaving the room without another word.
