Layla’s POV

"Tempting," he admitted. "But no. I’ll let you get back to waiting for your friend."

Right. Maddie.

Guilt twisted in my stomach again. I shouldn’t have let myself get this distracted.

But Logan’s presence made it so easy to forget about everything else.

He took a step back, slipping his hands into his pockets once more. "I’ll call you," he said simply, his voice laced with something that almost sounded like promise.

I bit my lip, nodding. "Okay."

And then, with one last lingering glance, he turned and walked away.

I watched him go, watched as he disappeared around the corner, leaving behind only the faintest trace of warmth in the cold hospital air.

And even though he was gone…
