Layla's POV

As I opened the door to our apartment, I was immediately greeted by the sight of Maddie lying on the couch, her face contorted in pain as she clutched her stomach. 

Her knees were drawn up to her chest, and she looked so small, so vulnerable. Guilt surged through me. I should have been here sooner.

“Maddie!” I rushed to her side, dropping my bag on the floor as I knelt beside the couch. “Hey, how are you feeling? Have the cramps eased up at all?”

She shook her head weakly, her lips pressed into a tight line. 

“No… it’s worse than usual.” Her voice was faint, laced with pain, and it broke my heart to see her like this. I hated how helpless I felt, how I couldn’t just snap my fingers and make her feel better.

“Hang on, I’ll get you something for the pain.” I jumped to my feet, hurrying to the bathroom where we kept the first aid box.
