Layla's POV

Maddie burst out laughing, nearly spilling the popcorn. 

“You keep telling yourself that.”

I crossed my arms, pretending to be offended. 

“I hate you.”

She leaned her head on my shoulder, her laughter dying down. 

“Love you too, Layla.”

I smiled, resting my head on hers. 

“Thanks for not judging me. And for not forcing me to choose Jason just because he’s been there for me.”

Maddie sighed, her voice gentle. 

“I’d never do that. You deserve to be happy, Layla. Even if that means breaking someone else’s heart.”

I closed my eyes, her words sinking in. It wouldn’t be easy. I would have to face Jason eventually. 

But for now, I was grateful for this moment of peace, curled up on the couch with my best friend, laughing over silly movies and teasing each other like old times.

“Enough about Jason and Mr. Handsome,” Maddie said, waving her hand dramatically
