Layla's POV

I felt my chest tighten, my heart racing at the sincerity in his voice. 

“I… I’d like that.”

“Really?” His voice brightened, relief evident in his tone. 

“That’s great! I was worried you’d say no.”

I laughed, shaking my head. 

“Why would I say no?”

“I don’t know… maybe because I can be a bit too much sometimes.”

I smiled, warmth spreading through me. “You are… but it’s not a bad thing.”

He let out a breath, his voice soft. “Thanks, Layla. That means a lot.”

I glanced over at Maddie, who was still staring at me, her eyes unfocused as if her mind was somewhere else. 

I frowned, wondering what was going on with her. Usually, she would be teasing me about my phone call by now.
