Maddie's POV

She smiled a little, though it didn’t reach her eyes. 

"It’s not your fault, Maddie. I just wish I could understand why I was so drawn to him. Why does it feel like I’ve known him forever, even though I can’t remember anything?"

I swallowed hard.

Because you have known him forever, Layla.

Because he’s the father of your child.

But I couldn’t say that.

Instead, I squeezed her hand and whispered, "Maybe some things aren’t meant to be understood. Maybe they’re just meant to be let go."
