Chapter 979

Maddie's POV

“Well, you have to think about it,” I snapped, harsher than I intended. I softened my voice when I saw the pain in her eyes. 

“Jason is going to find out eventually. And when he does… Layla, this is going to break him.”

Layla’s eyes filled with unshed tears. She covered her mouth with her hand, shaking her head, her entire body trembling. 

“I didn’t mean for this to happen,” she whispered.

I let out a humorless laugh, pacing the small bathroom. 

“Yeah, well, it did happen. And now we have to figure out what the hell we’re going to do.”

I stopped pacing and turned to her. “Are you going to tell Jason?”

She didn’t answer right away. She just stood there, frozen, her hands wrapped protectively around her stomach as if she was trying to come to terms with the life growing inside her.

Finally, she whispered, “I don’t know.”

And for the first time, I felt just as helpless as she did.
