Maxine’s POV

"I'll expect nothing less from you," Liam replied.

"I'm glad you're okay," Alpha Harold finally spoke up.

He was looking at me when he said it. Then his eyes moved to the others. But, it was enough to weaken my resolve. My father still cared about me.

After exchanging some more words, Alpha Beck gave us a car and offered to escort us halfway back. I fell asleep at the back with Kris and only woke up when we were close to town. It was already dawn.

Varis stopped in front of my apartment building and dropped me outside. "Get some rest," Varis said. I glanced at Liam but he said nothing. His face was stone cold and he looked ahead.

"Okay. Thanks for dropping me off." I said and watched them drive off.

I took the stairs quickly. I didn't want people to see me in my dirty clothes and ask about me. But the moment I reached my house, Lindsey came out of hers.

"Maxine!" She exclaimed. "Is that blood?" Lindsey walk
