Chapter 8

Maxine's POV

I felt a deep sadness settle over me, heavier than ever before. I had no answers, no comfort, and no hope. All I had were my dreams and the harsh reality of my life.

"I’ll try to be strong," I whispered, more to myself than to the Moon Goddess. "I’ll try to survive. But please, if you can hear me, give me some sign that there’s a reason for all of this. Give me some hope."

With those final words, I curled up on my bed, letting the exhaustion take over. My dreams might be the only place where I found comfort, but for now, they would have to be enough.
