Chapter 19
"I'm not going back too late," I announced, lightly hitting the bag on the leg, while leaning on the threshold of the portal that led to the room. They didn't move their heads. They didn't give any sign that they would be listening to my voice, or that I was more than a soul wandering around that house. I took a look in the direction of the corridor that extended to the kitchen, I could see the light on and I knew that the servants would still be working, I could say goodbye to them, since they considered me more alive than my parents believed. However, when I thought about going to the kitchen, my mother turned her head, throwing me an inquisitive, unreal look. Sometimes I had the impression that she wondered how crazy she had gone; if there really was another child to take care of. "I said I won't take long. I'm just going out with a friend for a show."
"Have fun," my mother said, again keeping her attention on the wall.
