Chapter 4

Erin woke up feeling extremely energized and happy. She hadn’t gotten a response from Dreams yet, but that was not the reason for her excitement. She was elated because it was her twenty-seventh birthday. She didn’t have much to be grateful for just yet, but she was grateful that she got to 27.

Her door was roughly pushed open when she tried getting out of bed, and her eyes almost popped out of their sockets at the sight of Jasmine, holding a cake in hand. Her hands flew to her mouth, and she blinked back the tears, which were threatening to spill.

Jasmine dropped the cake on the bedside table, then she sat on the bed next to Erin. She smoothened Erin’s hair, pushed it to the back of her ear, and stared admiringly at her.

“Happy birthday, Erin. Welcome to a new beginning.”

“You don’t always have to be so dramatic,” Erin said with a laugh. The tears she tried really hard to keep away began spilling. She sniffled loudly, wiped them off with the back of her palm
