Chapter 32
They waited in front of The Freeman building and when Mary came outside, Erlin and Catherine walked towards the wooden gate. “Hello, Em.” Kate greeted Mary with her nickname from the province.
“Kate! Erlin! Come in,” Mary opened the gate and the three of them ascended to the wooded stairs towards the second floor where she rented a room together with her sister, Marjorie.
“Where’s Marjorie?” Erlin asked.
“She’s in the kitchen,” Mary replied
Catherine liked that Dragon’s Place was always clean, what she couldn’t tolerate was the landlady’s attitude because the old man would treat her boarders differently. “Where’s Dragon?” She asked.
“At this hour, I’m sure she’s in the church to attend the mass,” Mary answered.
Catherine smirked at the thought that Dragon would always go to church and yet her attitude was something far from someone who’s religious and devoted, and it was like that the old woman was living a double life. “Much better,” she said.
