Rose’s POV
I swallowed the lump in my throat, forcing myself to nod. “I know,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “But I can’t just leave you like this.” I kept on telling her.
She gave me a small, sad smile, her eyes filled with understanding. “You’ve done…so much…already,” she said. “But…you can’t stay…You have to…survive…” she said to me with her last strength.
The tears I’d been holding back threatened to spill over again, but I fought them down. I had to be strong for her, just like she wanted.
“I’ll make sure you’re safe,” I promised, my voice trembling. “I’ll find a place for you to rest, where nothing can hurt you.” I promised her again.
She nodded weakly, her eyes closing for a moment as if even that small effort had drained her. “Thank you…Rose,” she whispered. “For…everything…” she said, thanking me.
I couldn’t speak past the lump in my throat, so I just nodded, squeezing her hand gently. Then, taking a deep breat
