“Something went wrong,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “Something…dark.” I tried explaining, but I felt bad.
Rose’s face fell, and she leaned in closer, her voice trembling. “What happened?” she asked me calmly.
I looked at her, my heart heavy with the weight of the memory. “I called for the rain, but instead…something else answered.” I just didn’t know how to place it so I wouldn’t scare her away.
Her brow furrowed in confusion. “Something else? What do you mean?” she just didn’t stop asking, and I didn’t want to scare her away with the outcome.
I shook my head, the words catching in my throat.
