Alpha Kanen’s POV

I knew something was wrong the moment Rose left.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that she was in danger, or worse, that she had put herself in a situation she couldn’t handle.

As soon as the others were distracted, I slipped away under the cover of darkness.

I had no clear idea of where I was going, but my instincts told me to keep moving.

The night was unforgiving. The darkness pressed in from all sides, making it nearly impossible to see more than a few feet ahead.

The leaves on trees above blocked out what little moonlight there was, leaving the forest around me silent.

Every step I took felt uncertain, as if the ground itself wanted to swallow me whole.
