I could feel my control slipping.

The wolf’s words were like a knife twisting in my gut, and I hated the way it was playing with me, trying to provoke a reaction.

But I wasn’t going to let it get to me. Not completely.

“If she’s being manipulated, I’ll save her,” I said firmly, trying to keep my voice calm. “And if the wizard has any other intentions, I’ll make sure he regrets ever crossing paths with us.” I told the wolf as I promised myself.
