‘‘Please… just come home already...’’ Celine said through the phone, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of compassion for her. I turned my attention to Chris, who was still trying to match the fingerprints in the database.

‘‘Chris…’’ I spoke out to him, patting a hand lightly on his shoulder. ‘‘I’ll go home for a while. My wife needs me…’’

‘‘But this will be done in a minute…’’ he said, not taking a glance in my way. ‘‘This won’t take long…’’

‘‘Chris was totally correct...’’ Louis appeared out of nowhere and entered the room while holding a bottle of vodka. ‘‘Why don't you just wait until it's finished?’’

‘‘I can’t…’’ I said, and he arched a brow as if he was challenging me. I took a deep breath and cast a quick glance at the screen of my phone to check the time. It’s past eleven o’clock. I’d be home by twelve if l am going to leave now. ‘‘She's waiting for me...’’

‘‘Don’t you want to take a shot first?’’ he asked, and I shook my head.
