I couldn't catch a wink of sleep. Ever since Candice dropped by this morning, I had been wide awake, and now it was well past midnight. My eyes were puffy and red, and my heart ached every time I thought about her.

I tossed and turned in bed, my arm going numb from lying on it. I squeezed my eyes shut, clutching the pillow tightly as my chest felt like it was on fire, desperately trying to drift off.
