Chapter 124. A Promise

I was living my best days, though we were in hiding. What mattered to me was that I was in love with this man. I never thought that he would propose, and it was the best day of my life.

What mattered was that we were happy. The night was cold, and his arms kept me warm. Life felt like a dream, but it was how calm things were that scared me the most. It felt like the calm before the storm.

The next morning came, and I woke up feeling so heavy, very aware that the baby could come any day now. I was anxious and scared. I could see Damien was scared too, but he covered it up by encouraging me with a bright smile on his face.

“Hey, babe, ready for the morning?” he said with a smile, and I smiled brightly back at him.
