Chapter 25. The Preparation

“So tell me, what was the agreement you had with Ava and Maria?” I asked as I watched Everly consume the pancake.

She didn’t answer at first until she was done. She took out the leftovers and returned with a bottle of water. She poured some into a glass and sipped as if it was wine. I took a seat opposite her and watched her with a smile on my face.

“What?” She asked innocently.

“You haven’t answered my question.”

“Well, I called them to my room, as I told you earlier and made a deal with them.” She set the cup on the stool. “Ava and Maria are the only ones allowed in the kitchen and Maria has to taste the food she serves to us.”

“That’s ridiculous!”

She looked confused. “What is?”

“The idea of Maria tasting my food before I eat it. It’s almost like eating her leftovers,” I complained.

Everly laughed. “Oh Kaelan, I don’t think so.”

“Well, I do. Maybe you should just take over and start cooking our meals yourself.” I
