We were returning to Kaelan’s room after the council meeting, when I suddenly stopped and turned to him.
Kaelan’s shoulders were still stiff, and his hands were still clenched into fists even after I had tried to placate him.
He lost ten warriors and the weight of the attack must have taken its toll on him.
I gazed into his worried face, “Kaelan, I have an idea.”
He met my gaze with one of his own, his piercing gaze locking onto mine. “What is it?”
“I’ll use myself as bait to draw them out.”
At first, he just stared at me for a while before my words sank in like a rock. Then his expression darkened, and his jaw turned stiff. “Absolutely not.”
“Kaelan—”
“No, Everly!” His voice was sharp, filled with authority. “I won’t allow it. Do you understand me?”
