I froze in my tracks when I saw him.
Viktor.
He stood before me grinning. “I knew you would be stupid enough to come out here.” he said, his voice dripping with mockery. “I’ve been waiting for this moment.”
My heart pounded as I thought of the best line of defense. His men grabbed me, but I forced myself to stay calm. I had to think of a way of escape. And if I can’t, Kaelan would come for me.

The cold stone floor bit into my skin, and the smell of damp earth filled my nostrils. I glanced around but had no idea where I was. My hands were tied behind me, and the ropes dug into my wrists, but the ache in my chest was far worse.
I had failed Kaelan.
