Chapter 29. How Did This Happen?

I slept so deep, with Everly wrapped in my arms. The night was short and I wished it could be extended. But just then, I heard the sound of frantic shouting outside. I bolted upright in bed and listened intently.

It had been such a blissful night with Everly and I wasn’t intending to wake up this early.

The haze of sleep cleared from my eyes, replaced by a sense of being alert. Everly stirred beside me and opened her eyes. I could see her furrowed brow as the noise outside grew louder.

“Kaelan,” she murmured, her voice thick with sleep, “what’s going on?”

I swung my legs off the bed, and grabbed a pair of pants from the chair nearby. “I don’t know, but I’m about to find out.”

She sat up, and wrapped the sheet around her. “I’ll come with you.”

I turned to her, and tightened my jaw. “No, stay here. I’ll handle it.”

She shot me a determined gaze. “I’m your Luna, Kaelan. If something has happened to the pack, I need to know.”
