He glanced at her, but did not resent her for her words. She had the right to it. “I would rather fight on the side of truth. I would rather die serving a true king than live serving a monster,” he replied. “The child in the Queen will rule and unite the world someday.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I do know it, Casy,” he said with certainty.
She placed her hand on his and squeezed down on it a little. “Then I believe you. And I will fight because of you.”
He reached out to her and pulled her closer. He stroked her face tenderly, and he heard her heart skip a beat. Her lashes fluttered as she leaned against him for more.
“Since our death is inevitable, I thought you would want to know that I never stopped loving you or wanting you,” she said, her voice holding much vulnerability in them. “I may not be your mate or the one for you, but I love you more than anything else.”
