I froze in panic and lifted my face for him to see the dread in it.

What was he talking about?

“Are you insane?! If Otis finds out about this, he will kill you!”

“He’s been trying to kill me even before you two met, Giselle,” he stared at me flatly and then sighed, “I know your father’s death devastated you, and I want you to have a place where you can mourn and think peacefully, without Otis poisoning you with his lies.”

That’s when I threw Caden a piercing look: “Funny because Otis is loyal to me.”

He scoffed and then shook his head gently, like there was something funny about it—like he wanted to say something, but he chose not to.

It took me a lot of self-control not to remind him about how he lied to me before—when he secretly hung out with Gretta even though he knew how I would feel about it. And also that incident when he lied to everyone that his mother was kidnapped just to get out of the country to beat the sh*t out of Gretta’s ex
