Kelvin’s POV
“I’m sorry about that. Nicholas is uncouth most of the time.”
She withdrew from my hold and smiled tightly. “He’s right, though. I’m the kids’ babysitter, and I should check up on them and see if they are settling in well. You go ahead and have fun; it’s your party, remember?”
I tried to speak, but she already turned and headed toward the kids’ cabin. I cursed under my breath and reached for a glass of champagne from a passing waiter. I threw down the warm liquid and ran a hand through my hair in frustration.
“One would never guess it’s your birthday party with the way you are looking now.”
“Nicholas,” I said through clenched teeth. “He’s intentionally picking on Grace, and now she’s embarrassed.”
Dan rolled his eyes dramatically as he patted my back. “You should know how he is by now. He’s not going to give up easily.”
